"Time"

"Time"
Oil and Collage on Canvas, 2012

Detail; Text found in Meghan O'Rourke's memoir "The Long Goodbye."

This is another piece from my newest series of paintings. Meghan O'Rourke's memoir kept me company during a difficult time, and I wanted to merge this quote she shared with a painting that I could hang in our home. I purposefully kept the font small so that the viewer is forced to get close to the canvas in order to read the text, and get more intimate with the details of the rising and falling of words and brush strokes.

Moleskin Notebooks

FEAST!

A simple and lovely way to show your guests you care. This was easy - breezy. I simply cut strips of the paper as an accent, and tied the ribbons to seal.

Moleskin Notebooks for our annual feast; These can be used to document recipes, photos and other memories from our annual potluck-style weekend of gluttony. Unfortunately for the curious, what happens at the feast, stays at the feast.

(The wrapping paper I found at Target, and the tags, labels and ribbons were both purchased at Michaels...but I have seen them at Target, Walmart and many art/craft stores. The Moleskin notebooks were also purchased at Target).

2nd Annual Feast!

Second Annual Feast

This is the second year for our annual 'Feast,' and the food was delicious as ever! The theme this year was 'Mexican Fare,' and everybody dazzled with their culinary skills. Thank you to the best of friends that came to feast, play and laugh! We love you and we can't wait until the 2013 Greek Feast!

Feasters! I need a picture of Carolyn and Matt's Chipotle Chicken Salad, as well as the fried cheese with sugar cane. It was so delicious that I forgot to document! I actually just ate more of the chicken salad for lunch. Yum.

Adler Grier

ShOUt oUT SuNDaY!
What is this?! Every Sunday I am going to give a shout out to one of my friends, or family members, to spotlight their many talents. I am so blessed to be in the company of these great people, and I hope you will enjoy seeing what they create.

My first shoutout goes to my girl, Katie Adler. After years of working at Christie's Auction House in NYC, she started a beautiful jewelry design company. Click on the link below to view her gorgeous, handmade pieces.
We love you Katie and wish that you could be with all of us HWS girls this weekend! xx, k

Adirondack Spring
Oil on Canvas, 2012
(Approximately 36 x 48)

This is one of my first paintings of 2012, and one of my first paintings since I gave birth to my son (almost 3 years ago). More realistic than most of my older works, I have found great peace with this series. I found myself in an artistic rut, and this work helped skip me out.
I can almost feel and smell that Adirondack air.

Maybe I should be working on my centering instead of blogging....

Abstract Landscape

Abstract Landscape
(Oil, Acrylic, Ink and Chalk on board)

This piece is an oldie, but one of my favorites. One of my larger works, it is approximately 36 x 60, and owned by two of my favorite people. There is nothing I love more than seeing my work in a good home, and being able to visit it over delicious food and wine, great conversation, and guaranteed belly laughs.
Love.

Study Using 100 Lines + Value

More!

I made these examples for a drawing class that I taught. Students had to create a design using 100 lines, then they had to go back and add value (shades of grey) to the designs that they created. Try it! It is a great exercise in shading, plus it is very relaxing...or torturous depending on who you ask. I am sure some of my students would attest to this. :) I love you guys!
